Citroen C5 Aircross : Citroen has unveiled a comprehensively updated version of its C5 Aircross SUV, bringing fresh styling, enhanced comfort features, and improved technology to its flagship crossover offering. The mid-cycle refresh comes at a crucial time as competition in the mid-size SUV segment intensifies with new entries from Asian and European manufacturers. Analysts suggest these updates could help the French automaker strengthen its position in key markets where distinctive design and comfort-focused engineering remain important selling points.
Exterior Redesign Brings Bolder, More Contemporary Look
The most immediately noticeable changes to the C5 Aircross appear at the front, where Citroen designers have implemented a more vertical and imposing face. The previous curved light signature gives way to a more angular, technical lighting arrangement with dual-level LED headlamps. The iconic chevron logo now stretches across the width of the front end, flanked by slim daytime running lights that extend from the emblem outward.
Side profiles remain largely unchanged, retaining the floating roof effect and distinctive Airbump panels on the lower doors – practical plastic cladding that protects against minor parking scrapes and door dings. New 18- and 19-inch alloy wheel designs complete the side view, with more intricate patterns that add visual interest.
At the rear, revised LED taillights feature a more three-dimensional internal structure, while the bumper receives subtle reshaping to match the more angular front end. Three new exterior colors join the palette: Eclipse Blue, Platinum Grey, and Pearl White, bringing the total available choices to seven.
Interior Updates Focus on Comfort and Technology
Inside, Citroen has maintained its focus on what it calls the “Advanced Comfort” approach, with noticeable upgrades to both materials and technology. The dashboard has been completely redesigned around a larger 10-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system positioned higher on the dash for better visibility. The climate controls have thankfully been separated from the touchscreen, with physical buttons and dials making a welcome return for these frequently-used functions.
The distinctive Advanced Comfort seats receive new padding materials that Citroen claims offer better support during long journeys. These seats, with their multi-layer foam construction, remain a unique selling point that differentiates the C5 Aircross from firmer-riding competitors. Interior trim options now include a new Alcantara/leather combination on higher-spec models.
Practicality continues as a strength, with the three individual rear seats each capable of sliding, folding, and reclining independently. Boot space ranges from 580 liters to 720 liters depending on rear seat positions, expanding to 1,630 liters with all rear seats folded.
Powertrain Options Evolve with Electrification Push
Under the hood, Citroen has rationalized the engine lineup while expanding electrified options. The previous array of petrol and diesel engines has been streamlined, with focus shifting to the plug-in hybrid powertrain that combines a 180 horsepower 1.6-liter petrol engine with an 80kW electric motor for a combined output of 225 horsepower.
The PHEV version offers up to 55 kilometers of electric-only range on the WLTP cycle, while a larger onboard charger cuts charging time to under two hours with appropriate infrastructure. Conventional engine options include the 1.2-liter PureTech petrol with 130 horsepower and the 1.5-liter BlueHDi diesel with the same output, both available with either 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmissions.
All powertrains benefit from Citroen’s Progressive Hydraulic Cushions suspension system, which adds hydraulic compression and rebound stops to conventional shock absorbers, effectively creating a suspension that better absorbs road imperfections.

Citroen C5 Aircross Advanced Driver Assistance and Connectivity Features
The technology package receives substantial updates with the C5 Aircross now offering Highway Driver Assist, which combines adaptive cruise control with lane keeping assist for Level 2 semi-autonomous driving capability. The safety suite also includes blind spot monitoring, driver attention alert, and automatic emergency braking.
Connectivity improvements center around the new infotainment system, which offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with over-the-air update capability and connected navigation services. A customizable 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster complements the main screen, allowing drivers to prioritize navigation, driving data, or media information.
